realtyman,

1. do your rears have differing manufacture dates? That is, do you have a XX04 on the left and XX03 on thr right?

2. do you have different speed ratings like Rudy suggested?

3. are the left and right equal in pressure?

and perhaps, just perhaps, do you always have a bigger passenger on the right? ...LOL.

2. do you have different speed ratings like Rudy suggested? I'll check again but I think they are all the same speed rating. (Never noticed otherwise).

3. are the left and right equal in pressure? Tire pressures are the same left & right.

and perhaps, just perhaps, do you always have a bigger passenger on the right? ...LOL. Actually, I rarely have passengers at all (nobody will drive with me ).

One thing that I did notice and am not sure if this has anything to do with the problem is the fact that even though the tires have an "outside" designation the tread pattern on the "inner" side are not directional.
Looking at my car from the rear the left side inner tread blocks "swoop" downward while the right side "swoops" upward. Could this be causing some kind of harmonic frequency given the stiffness of the tire construction???

Hi Olivin530i,

What do you mean by tyre configuration is staggered?
I have the same alloys as your E60, so its the 18in 245/40 tyres all round.

BM530,

Some owners opted/have 124 wheels and theirs have 245s front and 275s rear. Apparently those with 275 rears have quite even wearing pattern

realtyman,

thanks for the input - your fantastic observation could be the answer to Dunlop's bad name here.

Of all you know, if there is a Dunlop with manufacture date XX05 or XX06, they will have the same inner thread block

My fronts are date of mfg 2104, and my rears are 4204, and they're already making noise at 5500 miles. Can't tell if it's just the fronts or all four tires. Nevertheless, Dunlop did not fix the problem any sooner than 2104.

I'll be bringing up the issue with my dealer this week - I'll let you know what happens.

I don't think JDN has his stock tires. Didn't he bend all his rims on a bridge or was that someone else?

Look for the DOT nnnn nnnn WWYY on the sidewall, if YY is 04 or more, then you may have the re-designed Dunlop that is supposed to be quieter.

Checked what numbers are on my tires. 4304 I guess the 43 is the week. Now all I have to do is hope I have the new compound or design or what ever they did.I'm going to try and get in touch with Dunlop and see what they have to say.
cheers

Did Dunlop say what date the new design started?
