Hi guys... I am a new member from Hong Kong. I am planning on ordering a 2006 540i or 550i. I visited the dealer in Hong Kong yesterday and they claimed that they still do not have the pricing for these new models yet. However, I found out that they have just put out a new deal for their stock of new 2005 545i (5 cars left). Originally the 545i cost HK$830,000 which is US$106,793. They are now offering all their 545i stock for HK$763,000 (US$ 98,173), a total savings of HK$67,000 (US$8620). Now I am temped.... because the dealer cannot confirm if they will carry the 540i in Hong Kong or not. And, they suspect that the 550i will cost close to HK$900,000 (US$115,800) which is a little out of my budget. So do you guys think I should take the deal on 545i now or wait to see if the 550i tops HK$900,000?

Yes... unfortunately the car taxes in Hong Kong is outrageous. I am really not sure how they calculate it, but it is like exponential or something... The more expensive the car, the higher percentage of tax is levied. Do you know how much is a Maybach62 here in Hong Kong?... It's HK$6,800,000 (US$874,935)... haha crazy indeed!

Question : My salesman told me that there are no Blue or Silver left. Same as your salesman told you?
If you like the colour I think you should buy 545i. Dont wait 550i. the Hp is not much greater than 545i. The second reason is that the dealer may not import 550i.
(JUST GUESSING: They may think M5 instead 550i)

Go for it! You're not going to need much 360hp in HK.
If I were you, I would get it.

I believe that you made the right choice. I am well satisfied with the performance of the 545 and have no inclinations to go for a 550 which surely will perform a bit better with a fuel penalty attached. Good luck.
