Cool

Back in April of 2006 when I bought my 550i I posted asking whether it would be a good idea to spend almost $800 on the tire & wheel insurance policy offered by my dealer. The overwhelming answer on here was "no, save your money." Well, here it is a year and 1/2 later and thus far, they have paid for 9 flat tires and two cracked rims. Granted, I live near and regularly drive into Manhattan and there was almost a year of construction on my house that caused a few blowouts but for me, it was a bargain. My dealer charges around $500 for a rim, just over $500 for a front and around $600 for a rear tire. My $800 investment has so far saved me around $6000. So, if any of you are considering it, I think the investment is well worth it

Best,
Jeff

Good decision for your particular case. I too would buy the insurance if I lived in a high risk area.
The problem for someone who lives in an area with little risk is that they may need to pay the same amount for this policy even though their risk is much lower. In other words, their premiums pay for your claim, and this is not a good deal for them. This is a great deal for you.

I bought mine from the dealership as well but it was less than $300USD for five years (This was back in '04). Pretty good investment, so far it has paid for three tires, two flats and a cracked wheel.

Good for you; glad it worked out.

I think the overwhelming response you received from the folks on this board was due to the fact that most of us may not live nor drive in a high construction area on a daily basis. 9 blowouts and 2 cracked rims within 1.5 years is highly unusual.

GREAT, I went back and bought the 5 year plan which now includes roadrash. I paid $600 for 5 years of coverage and I'm glad I did.

While I haven't had a tire failure, flat, nor cracked rim in over 10 years....reading all of the posts about these problems have made up my mind...I will spend the $500.00 and get the wheel and tire insurance when I pick up my car.

Hopefully I'll never need to use it - but you never know

I myself purchased the Tire/Wheel protection from my dealer...

The previous car I owned had 18" wheels with Pirelli P-Sports. Living in New England, our roads are far from perfect. I bubbled 4 tires and cracked one wheel in 3 years with no protection. Obviously very costly... ($300 a tire and $450 a wheel)

When they offered the wheel/tire protection from my BMW dealer, I couldn't say no... I can't remember what they charged, but I think it was in the $400 range and covered all damage no questions asked... I could barely see the increase in monthly payments and I feel much better about not having to have a heart attack each time I hit a infamous New England road crater...

Where exactly in ATL are you driving? NYC I can definitely understand how tires/rims can get chewed up quite often...but I've been in and around Atlanta quite a few times...other than construction sites or trucks dropping crap on the interstate, the roads aren't nearly as bad as NYC.
