getting deposit back from dealer

Has anyone changed their mind and had to get deposit back from dealer. Do they keep it if you canel the order?

I'm not sure if it's a state by state thing, but I know in California they cannot keep the deposit.

well, in that case, i had to make 2 deposits

?500 at the time of ordering

then

another ?6500 on collection.

I see a deposit as


1. stopping you from walking away and never being seen again.

2. stopping you from not taking delivery, leaving the dealer with some weird trim choice he cant sell to anyone else that easily........ but then ?500 on a ?27,000 car isnt that much of a surety....
