What is the difference between extended warranty and extended maintenance?
I considered the extended warranty with my e46. I gambled, (did not get the warranty) and won. The car was bullet proof! NO PROBLEMS. I can't imagine the e60 being much worse. Sure the computers are more complex in the e60, but they are still computers, just smarter computers. Experience has it that car electronics have become pretty reliable. Mechanically BMW have a good history.
My e60 is now 2 years old, and basically nothing has been done to it. I think that this is a sign that it is going to be reliable over the long term. (I hope!)

If you don't get the extended warranty, I wouldn't keep your bimmer to far past 50,000 miles.
the Maintenance basically pays for oil changes (routine maintenance), and in the case of the BMW program, pays for brake service (which can pay for the contract in itself). this program runs abt $1800, less if you buy from twinkidneygrill.com

bhorne, "Past performance is no guarantee of future success"
given everything i've read and i cant take that chance... my e60 has been smooth as silk, thanks v much, but at 49.5K i've got the heebeejeebies, no matter 2 years of peace
I've been told, by BMW, that the radio (M-Ask or CCC unit) and iDrive is not covered with the Original Owner Protection from BMW (Extended warranty), that sux. I'd rather go with a third party provider that covers all electronics in the car.
I just bought an extended warranty thru BMW for 3yr/36,000 miles which ever comes frist. They charged me $2740.00USD with 10% down and auto deductions from my C.C. Not bad at all, even no Deductible. they even covered the mat sensor and the active sterring issue. already has begun paying for itself.
