BMW Extended Warranty Program (BMW 2OP) does not cover radio, CD Player, Navigation, front and rear suspensions, among other things. Take a look at the 2OP contract in detail, specially the "What is not covered' section.

I agree with others. I think the SA is refering to the Extended Maintenance Plan with can be bought for ~$1600.

I do plan on getting the Extended Maintenance Plan since I will be due for front and rear brakes, vehicle inspection, and oil changes all within the next year. In my case, the Maintenance Plan pays for itself.

Why wouldn't the Idrive be covered under the extended warranty? Doesn't the word "extended" imply they will simply extend or prolong the warranty you have now, which would cover the Idrive?

+1 on what the others are saying. Sounds to me that the SA was talking about maintenance warranty and not extended (repairs) warranty. If that's the case, they should be talked down to about $1500~1600.

Would these things be covered by CPO warranty and/or by extended maintenance? I'm about to pull the trigger on a 545 that has CPO and maintenance until october 2010, so it'd be nice to know if I'm gonna have to [potentially] eat some costs anyway, even though it should all be covered..

I have read the CPO and it also offers the same language as outlined by JStraw. I would make the argument that I use the Idrive for climate control and to check my oil and now I can't fully use either and they really need to fix it, or at least fix those two functionalities. This is when you would bring in the regional BMW NA rep to mediate..

The language does not specifically mention that Idrive is not covered. It says that "accessories" such as CD changer, navigation, telephone are not covered. Idrive is not an accessory so I think it would be covered.

Thanx for the feedback all!! sorry for not making myself clear regarding this "warranty" my sa told me about. i do believe he meant the "extended maint." warranty. i've heard this warranty is much limited in terms of coverages compared to the original 4 yr/50k. so is it worth it? we'll see. i will be seeing him aahhgain this week because my L7 passenger speaker is no good and one is on order, and this is when i'll ask for specifics re: this "warranty." i'll keep you guyz posted....

I think that the extended maintenance plan ($$) covers everything related to maintenance. The extended warranty ($$$$) has exclusions.

Get the warranty; you will thank yourself later. It has saved me on two occasions.

Wassup flyingpuck,

i take it that what you're saying is to continue to extend warranties or maintenance plans as long as you want? is that possible? isnt there some kind of cutoff to warranty an older vehicle? i'm not yet all too familiar with warranties on these vehicle but, as soon as i get the call from my SA (re: my speaker) i'll be sure to ask him, and let you all know what i've learned....

thanks to all for the sound advice!!!

Hey guyz,

well this is what my dealer told me regarding the service plans available after manufacturers warranty:

A "maintenance" plan/warranty (2 yr/50k) which basically covers everything in idrive service menu: engine oil, brake fluid, f/r brake pads, spark plugs, microfilter, etc. nothing more and nothing less. just strictly those items listed. Price? $1995, i'm a maintanence buff so its not worth it for me...

A "mechanical" plan/warranty (2 yr/50k) which covers engine and components (excluding belts and hoses), suspension, tranny, a/c and related parts. basically your "not so average" repair work, the big ticket items if you will. chances are, and even my sa said this, based on my average annual mileage (roughly 10k - 13k) i probably wont need nor benefit from it. he also stated "but you never know..." Price? he didn't say exactly but said "alot more."

keep in mind any electrical and in cabin components e.g. cup holders, window switches, even your visor, etc. are no longer covered. we are SOL there!

in the end i decided to not get either one. what i will get are modz baby...
