My dealer (Canada) says that to put a set winters on my '08 5 Series I need

* Wheel Sensors x 4 @ $27.00 each for a total of $108.00
* RDC modules x 4 @ $144.00 each for a total of $576.00

PLUS two hours of labor to install the RDC Modules.

It seems a bit ridiculous that BMW would engineer a system that costs almost $1,000 to put on a set of winters, and as suich it doesn't pass the small test. Anyone have any thoughts/comments?

Don't have the wheel sensors on my older model car but this is clearly BS. I can understand the 4 new wheel sensors but 4 new RDC modules at almost $600? Are they suggesting that this is something you'll have to do everytime you change tires? Outrageous! My suggestion is to find another dealer to make the switch, if possible. Others will chime who have switched rims for looks and for winter set-ups and I don't recall anyone paying for 4 new RDC modules.

Using U.S. Dollars, you can get the two pieces to the sensor for approximately $175 (all four wheels) with shipping. The installation (i.e., rebalancing) should cost $25 per tire on the high end.

All they need to do is push the tire aside to place the sensors on the wheel. They each screw in within a matter of seconds.

$300 (US) tops for the job, although most would do the work for less.

I hope this helps.

+1. Wheel sensor is for the brake system(pads wear sensor), and there's one for each axle, unless its an M5 which has one per wheel. Valve caps RDC is $ 0.30 each WTF!??

I got the exact same number quoted to me by my dealer in Canada. It seems to me that Canadian dealers really stick it to us on a lot of pricing issues. I haven't discovered a solution but I will probably order the parts out of the states. Just frustrating. We drop over $80,000 for a car then they just start adding on costs.

www.tirerack.com quotes $196 (four wheels price) for the two pieces of the TPMS system installed when you buy a tire/wheel package. I don't know if they'll ship to Canada, but I'd imagine they will.
