Emergency brake?!

Never heard it called that before. Is that for if you want to create an emergency?? Pull it up while doing 160?

I've always known it as the hand brake. Thanks for the answer anyway.
I know it as the parking brake.
In case of emergency I never pull it. It doesn't help!!!
And in cases of emergency you don't want to lose control by taking a hand off the steering wheel...
The regular brakes are good enough. Just use the bake pedal and leave both hands on the steering wheel!

Well, half of the US cannot drive.
Half! I think you're giving us a little too much credit Kigerka! At least down here in New Orleans, it's probably closer to 1/4.

I've been known to use that parking brake on my former VW to slow my car when being tracked by police for speeding. Hence the ability to slow down without the brake lights glowing, making a reduced speed look more innocent!!!????

Probably not the best practice, but it seems to have helped on occasion

When using your handbrake on both rear wheels there will be brakeforce.

Not more than on the brake pedal!
When you use the regular brakes you can not increase the brake force by pulling the parking brake. Just if you are not pushing the brake hard enough the parking brake would help - but in that case it would be easier to just push the brake pedal real hard!
Never use it for emergency braking. It doesn't help and you don't have enough control on the car.

Flowerfred,
its supposed to work on both rear wheels!
