Looking to buy a one owner 2005 545i SMG 30K miles. Warranty expires in less than 2 weeks, but I don't know if I can justify the purchase price if I have to extend the warranty. With that low of miles, should I be concerned about this E60 having warranty or not? I plan to keep the car for now more than 2 years.

Thanks!!!

Check the CarFax, and BMW dealer history.. Also if you want to buy an extended warranty you can, but you must do so before the end of your warranty period. GMAC 4 year bumper to bumper (ultimate coverage) runs about 4g's up here in Canada.. That covers an additional 3 years 80,000kms

The CarFax should show if any major work has been done ( drivetrain), but checking the VIN out at your local dealer wouldnt hurt either.

Whats the price?

I would get the extended warranty. Even with low miles the vehicle is prone to malfunction and errors. If you can get it at a right price w/ extended warranty I would go for it.

I would definitely get the extended warranty... Im shopping for one right now. I'm currently at 40,000 miles and im already experiencing some electrical issues. It will saVE YOU tons of $$$ in the end.

Yes, DEFINITELY YES ... but before purchasing an aftermarket warranty examine what items it excludes from coverage.

Get the warranty, or pass on this 545i. especially with SMG trranny.

If you dont get it now, you'll kick yourself at your FIRST non warranty $2K repair bill

Actually for me, its more of whether you are "feeling" the car. It 30K miles so I would say its slightly below average mileage for a good car like the 545 as long as the previous owner didn't abuse it .

Anyway, advantage of warranty is of course "free" repairs if anything goes wrong BUT the any other stuffs such as servicing, labour, parts etc not related to warranty issues may be high given that you are getting it from an authorised agent of BMW. Without warranty, you can mod the car without any worry that you might void the warranty, you can choose which good workshop to go to when repairing or servicing the car. Nothing beats having a good relationship with your trusted mechanic and looking at him/her tending to your beloved ride. I don't think you can do that if you send your car to the authorised agent/dealer of BMW.

I have had a E46 330 previously without warranty. Everytime I needed something done, it was done quickly and I could supervise the works and ask questions and learn SO many things which BMW's mechanics or service agents will never tell you My current E60 is still under warranty though..

Anyway..thats my experience..
