Not so--there was a 996 GT2. It's basically a Turbo, less AWD, with a stripped interior, and a bit more power.

Check some ring numbers. The five year old 996 turbo put up a 7:56. Meanwhile, the M6 will not break 8 minutes.

Like stream mentioned, there is indeed a gt2 that was brought over to the U.S. I believe it was rated at 456bhp, but I've seen dynos where stock gt2s put out over 500 hp to the rear wheels.

i wasnt aware of the GT2 ever coming to the US, it thought it couldnt pass emissions, AFAIK, but it is supposed to be much faster that the 996tt

Has anyone an idea when the 997TTS will come out? About how much time after the introduction is the performace package or model usually offered?

I have to agree that the M6 would beat the 997S & Aston in real world driving & drag races. The TG test was always going to produce the 997 as the winner, given the weather conditions & the ceramic stoppers on the Porsche. Up against the Turbo, i'm not so sure as the traction is better & of course extra power & less weight, i think the 997 Turbo would just pull it off but it would defo be close.

I ran against many Porsche Turbos at previous VMAX events, both 993 & 996 whilst in my modified RS6 & never once was i even flusterd by a Porsche Turbo with the exception of the insanely fast RUF Turbos. I ran alongside the DMS modified M5 which produced 545BHP & every time it was a dead heat for 0-60MPH, 0-100MPH, 0-150MPH & VMAX of 181MPH, so that concludes that a modified M5 can slaughter Porsche Turbos & therefore so can the M6.

Dealers just placed orders a few days ago for the launch models, so I'd guess April/May we'll see them on the street. Will be formally introduced in Geneva.

The X50 kit is usually released a year or so later, and the S model in the last year of production.

Probably--there have been spy shots of the new design around for quite some time now--wouldn't be surprised to see it for MY07.
