Pure PORSCHOGRAPHY!!!!
I LUV IT!

I would buy it any time over an m6.

Few things i want to say about the TG test of the m6: it wasn't on thier track. That was more of a straight road than a track like style. Anyway the results are to be discussed. Also i'd like to point out that the porsche had the ceramic brakes wich helps alot at braking. So given a wet road that permits the driver to reach high speeds and a few corners braking is crucial. Also the porsche is rear engined, so there more push on the rear wheels, wich translates into a quite more grip advantage on a wet road.
On their track i bet the m6 would beat that 997 on a wet lap and on a dry one it would smoke it.

BUT THAT 911 TURBO is a freakin different story. WOW! Talking about my dream car. One that isn't really achivable, well not very soon. My current dream car is the m3 csl.

Now if I wanted to get a really fast car that would be on the top of my shopping list. Years of sports car pedigree, a prestigious brand and german build quality.

If its important to you, I reckon it would hammer an M6 round a test track or winding road. On Top Gear even a bog standard 911 took care of an M6 (both in the hands of a professional racing driver albeit on a wet road surface). I recall the M6 was a full 6 seconds slower !!!
that is the weight that makes the difference
Yes but it was still surprising given the M6 had like 140 more bhp. Power to weight surely must be higher on the M6 compared to a bog standard 997. The M6 was no quicker than an Aston with 360bhp. Probably just to heavy to be chuckable.

It's not all about horse power as the Top Gear test illustrates. Having said all of that the M6 will probably still sell reasonably well......

...if you saw that TG show you will have to agree that the test was completely crap and biased, i dont know any test that can be taken seriously when the road is wet...the M6 had some issues gaining traction which was why this was even close...it will tear the *$& off the Aston as well as the 997S, we'll see who's quicker when they test the 997 Turbo....

Yes the wet road could have made a significant difference but the point is that it wasnt even close. The M6 was a full 6 seconds off the Porsche in approx a 90 second lap. Same driver, same conditions. Also, it's wet all the time in the UK and to be fair to Clarkson he was voting for the M6.

Has and M6 done a lap of TG's track ? Would give us an interesting benchmark.

I bet round a track a 997 Turbo would crucify an M6.

Nope no m6 lap time. Only m5 1 26.9 if i remember correctly. M6 should be faster around 1 26 maybe?!? 911 turbo beating it...yeah i think that also. But not crucify. Let's not be drastic. It would need to be at least 2-3 seconds quicker than the m6 to say that, and that the realm of 911gt3 rs and ferrari 360 CS (esentially track cars)

True.

I would expect the M6 to be very fast around the track, but I would expect the 997 Turbo to have the measure of it. Your right, crucify is probably an exaggeration.

Is the GT3 a stripped out racer 911 ? Im sure they had it on TG or was it the old version

BTW sorry to go a bit offtopic. I never heard about gt2. Never seen tv shows testing it. It's like a phantom to me. Don't know much about specs also. If u say the GT2 is the really fast one...that means the gt3 rs isn't quite the best track car from Porsche (excluding prosche gt of course). Is the gt2 or when was on sale? What price?
Thanx

And yes the GT3 RS is imo the most hardcore porsche out of all 911 range. The latest models that is....NA and as light as a buttercup.
