My buddy just picked up an E55 amg...and he's taunting me to race him. I have a 545I w/steptronic....

Does anyone know what the 0-60 and the 1/4 mile is on his vehicle? And how badly do you think he'll kick my ass....(should we race)

He will kick your butt quite badly I'm afraid. E55's run mid 12 second quarters, with sub 5 second 0-60 times.

It's a slushbox too, so no shifts to miss, no rpm limiter to hit, really not many mistakes for him to make.

You would take him in the twisties though....

He only wants to race you because he knows he has the upper hand. The E55's a brute.

Race him only if he is blindfolded.

Or pull up with a new Corvette or E60 M5 and it'll probably be even!

I hate to say, but the E55 might be (in some aspects) a better challenge for the M5... not the 545, I think he's faster.
E55's are 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and 1/4 mile in 13 seconds. Yikes!.
But im sure a 545 with dynamic drive could easily out handle the heavy benz.

Just rip all your seats, spare tire, and headliner out, to get the a faster 545...

cheers

Take my advice.... DO NOT RACE w/ HIM

Unless you enjoy a nice asskicking on a regular basis as the kickee (as oppose yo the kicker).

You need to learn to pick your battles. The nue E55 AMG will hand your a$$ on a plater. It wouldn't even be close.

cheers,

beewang

A friend of mine purchased that beastly benz...2005....there was so much power to the back tire that when you turn off the traction control the car is like a new born puppy on a slippery floor....its all over the place....shits a beast guys....although it would be interesting against m5...who would win...thats the question ??

Personally i would go for the E60 M5, the E55 doesn't come with "Full" maintenance or scheduled maintenance for that matter!

I had an '03 E55 and can tell you that in a straight line it will smoke you--badly. 0 - 60 is around 4.5 secs. That car has so much power (469 HP, 516 lb/ft of torque) that with WOT it's hard to keep the rear wheels in contact with the road--even the traction control has a hard time keeping up! In my opinion, they--among other issues--undersized the rear tires. Now, on a road track, you might have a chance, due to the 545i's superior handling and braking.

I sold my E55 after 4 months because, although it was a beast power-wise, the steering was numb, the handling was terrible, and the brakes were horrible. It had huge Brembos, but with the brake-by-wire system they use, the brake response was very non-linear--almost like an on/off switch. Granted I was coming from an '02 Carrera. I ended up trading it for an '04 Carrera.

From a drivers perspective, I'm enjoying my 545i so much more than the E55. It's a much more connected driving experience.
