I know there have been couple posts about the Genesis already but I'm going to post it here to get more attention.
There are still life on the Earth - planet Tellus that is.
We do not need more metallic BS pollution here.
Keep it out, please.

+1. It appears as if this car is above and beyond their usual offering, even the more reason to begin differentiating it from their other cars.

Wow! I may just have to nix my 550i deal tomorrow and make a Hyundai detour!
But seriously, it's a nice looking car inside and out......kudos to Hyundai.

I strongly suspect that their strategy, quite correctly, is the polar opposite. The Genesis is intended to help grow the reputation of the entire brand. Their aggressive comparisons with established high and higher end brands (Porsche, BMW, Lexus etc) clearly show that this is the intent of their marketing strategy (and I believe it to be the correct approach). Quite simply, if they were to cut this car loose and use it to launch a new nameplate it would do a lot less for the existing Hyundai brand.
According to my buddy - the one who went to the Genesis US driving event, the marketing folks claimed that in a perfect world, they'd spin a new dealer network like Infiniti, Lexus, or Acura. They don't have the cash to do it, so they have to hope the product stands on its own.
The good news is that by all accounts, it does stand on its own. As you point out, this should help grow the brand reputation, regardless of intent.
I'm old enough to remember when people laughed at the notion of a $20,000 "Honda" when the first Legend made an appearance. Lexus was fast on its heels, but considered "late to the game" and the thinking was "why do we need 2 of something we don't want?"
Opinions changed -fast-.

In the 70's people laughed at Toyota and ridiculed it's quality...now the Toyota brand is synonymous with quality/reliabilty. The next generation has not experienced the Hundai Pony - the brand can change pretty quickly once new quality models get into circulation. It's an impressive car for the price. Does it complete with BMW? Of course not, but if you look around at what you can can get new for $40k, I think this car is a contender.

Acceleration and skid pad numbers don't make a great car, but I have to admit, the Genesis is a good car! I have the 3.8 liter V6 as my company car and I really can't make any big gripes about it. Yes.... there is the brand issue, but if you look beyond that, it is a half decent car. I fully aware of the arrows that may be shot at me for making such statements, but I will stand by what I have said!
