The highway mileage is due to extremely tall gearing. Something like 1500 RPMs at 60mph. Bad news, even with the torquey V8 there's not much power down there. I bet the 550i pulls as well in top gear as the Vette from a given speed.

Well, you gotta remember what forum you're in. You'll have to take pretty much any outlandish slams against American cars with a big grain of salt (read: a salt lick.) I can't believe he had the nerve to say a Corvette gets "horrible" gas mileage, ESPECIALLY compared to 6-series! That statement blew all the credibility of his hole post! LOL

I have an '08 550i and an '09 corvette Z06. Highway mpg on the Z06 I was able to get almost 28mpg doing avg mph of 80-85mph, in the 550 doing bout the same avg speed 80-85mph I get at best 23mpg. I don't even touch 6th gear in the Z06.
