I'm not sure if I can actually hear some real engine sound there.... from the inside view it is mostly wind speed noise and the outside view at the beggining it is pretty much about exhaust I would say.....
there was no actual sound of the engine itself I would say....
pop the hood stick the camera in and start the car and do some revs.... then we can talk about the engine sound.....

I'm sure if some nice exhaust system is put on 535D it will sound the same from distance

I think diesels sound like shit, bmw's, merc's or any other diesel.
But i think thats about the only disadvantage of a diesel and maybe the low rpm which might be a little less exciting. Further more diesels have lots of advantages so i hope i didnt insult anyone.

honestly, driven diesel all my life before current 530i I have to say that it is only the sound and vibrations that made me not to want to have a diesel engine in such a dreamed and expensive car as the E60.... even if I know how good BMW diesels are....
my friend just bought a fully loaded X5 diesel... great car but you can still feel the diesel inside....
it still needs a little more time for the final development....

the PD (pumpe-duse) system of VW is terrible, such vibrations...... finaly they got it and use CommonRail

A couple of days ago I gave a ride back from the airport to a client of mine. I merged into the motorway with a full throttle accelaration and he went "wow! Petrol engine, right?"
