Yeah, I think that's the key point out of all this...it's just a friendly discussion. But we're all passionate about cars and it could easily get out of hand if we don't take a step back.

Anyway, so......I'm still excited about the RS4 probably because I never thought they would bring it Stateside. I'm also excited about the upcoming E90 M3. Both car seems so closely matched on paper.

Well I will have to see the E90 M3 in person, I really don't like the rear of the E90 sedan hope they would make some improvements on the coupe.

RS4 is an awesome car, this one I agree on.

This is a friendly discussion, but I just absolutely hate when others put down cars just because they are not BMWs. Yes I currently own an Audi A6 and I will admit I get my hair up when people badmouth Audi. The car has been nothing but spectacular. Reliable, comfortable, fast, nimble and trouble free. It has been an awesome car and I regret not once owning it for 3 years +. It was a 46k car and to me it is nowhere near a VW in any fashion.

Look, I love all great cars, and I appreciate all great cars no matter who makes them. BMW, MB, Audi, Cadillac, whoever. I love them all and would be proud to drive any of them. Thats all I am saying. People need to learn that owning a given car has a lot to do about personal preference and we all need to respect each others personal preferences. Thats all.

*gets off soap box*

That being said, right now I would not own a Merc just because of the quality issues. Now if someone threw an E55 in my garage would I drive it and enjoy it? HELL YEAH!

I agree, one of the things I pointed out earlier is that some people are so set in their ways and I wish they're more opened to what other car manufaturers have to offer and respect their contributions. But I guess some people may have bad experiences which left a bad taste in their mouths for certain brands.... shit happens.

On a lighter note, I was at a car wash the other day and next to me was a brand new Audi A6 4.2 in black. What was funny was that I was admiring the Audi while the Audi driver was admiring my 545. We both only had a second to say "nice cars" to each other. (If only it was a hot girl driving that Audi... I hope my wife's not on this forum). Anyway, that's what I like.....people showing appreciation for each other's taste.

Exactly what I am saying. Respect the competition, not bad mouth them. On the lighter note, the new Audi's are growing on me. I was not thrilled with the larger grill originally, but I can say it is starting to look better. I had the same feeling with the 5 when it first came out. The car grew on me the more I saw them.

Good discussion

I have the chance to own and drive alot of other cars and yes you are right, bad experience from MB, Audi, Ford, GM that's why I might never buy from them again.

With the MB, I just wish the car would stay trouble free for one day.

With the Audi, the airbags deploys for no reason and they didn't even admit is a faulty system and refuse to pay for the repairs.

With Ford again the name suggest "Fix Or Repair Daily"

With GM is the same.

I am not telling you that all of you should be in a BMW, everyone is different but with the 6 years of trouble free in my E39 (except minor and regular maintenance) I just found confidence in them, plus the styling of E60 is

Well then have your opinions. For every car you listed there, I have had nothing but good experiences with.

MB. Never personally leased one, but our Company leased 3 so far. Mostly trouble free.

Audi. See my post above. Excellent car.

Ford. Owned 5 Fords in my life and my wife still drives an 03 Expecition. 2 cars and 3 trucks. Nothing but great things from them. No excessive repairs at all. All great experiences. "Fix or Repair Daily", "Found on Road Dead". Yeah, yeah, heard them all. Dude, those sayings are so 20 years ago, get over it.

GM. Owned at least 8 GM cars in my life. Still own 2 collector GM cars. GM had their problems a few years back, but straightened them out and is making a very good product right now. Cadillac is making some GREAT products right now.

So maybe you just have bad luck.

[quote name='Shebs' date='Oct 5 2005, 05:11 AM']With all my respect to all who think that this car is over priced:

This car accelerates from 0-125 mph in 16.6 seconds, has shown a top speed of 193 mph with the limiter off.

This car has a quattro system, which will give it more stability than the M3 or the M5. That is also why it is so heavy as one of the forum members stated. The complicated quattro system with two extra differentials doesn't come light.

The piston speed in this car is one of the fastest in the world reaching 25 m/s, which is as fast as a formula 1 piston.

IMHO, this car is great , and I think BMW will have a very hard time creating an M3 that is more stable or faster than this at this price.

Who needs quattro? More stability? yeah right! In the straights you can't really compare the stability of a quattro with a good set up rwd!!! If your saying better traction, yes i agree but in poor conditions like slippery roads.
Quattro is not as fun as a rwd, quattro means heavier car and also means a slightly slower top speed than the rwd car (assuming both cars are the same only the transmission is different).
So why do i need quattro? To drive a beafy understeery car...no thanx.
Piston speed? Is that one of the reasons it's so expensive? If so then Audi made a mistake...slow down the piston a bit guys and drop the price ...that would result more sales.

The car is exactly in the price range of the m5. heheheh even an audi freak would tend to go with the bimmer.

I've had over 15 years of quattro's, starting with the Audi GT, then the A4, and finally the A6 2.7T. There is nothing better in the snow and the rain. The problem with the Audi's is they are heavy and unbalanced compared to a BMW. There is just no comparison between the handling of an Audi and a comparable BMW. So, for $80K, I'd spring for a few thousand more, and get the M5.

I agree with you. But i think that in the rain a very good set up rwd car can outperform a quattro because of the lighter construction. Take an example an audi RS4 and an m3 CSL of course with some rain tires. I'm only saying that it's not all the time better a quattro over a rwd in the wet. I also have some 4 motion experience and i know that pushed really hard in the wet a awd WILL understeer, and it will understeer alot, and in a good rwd car it will oversteer but at least u are pointing in the right direction even though you are powersliding. In snow there is no question, quattro is the best.

The RS4 was reviewed on last night's episode of Top Gear here in the UK. Jeremy Clarkson reckoned it was better than the E46 M3 and couldn't see how the forthcoming V8 engine new model M3 could better it (but I'm sure it will). The Audi makes a fantastic noise and the interior looked very special with those winged Recaro racing seats. Even the rear seats are Recaros. It is the first Audi that Clarkson has driven where he hasn't had to criticise the ride quality he said. And at around ?50k GBP he called it a performance bargain.
