I am too well inform that's why I said that, you will find a 1.8T engine in the Jetta/Vento or a Passat and also you will find it in the A4 or A6, so an Audi is just a rebadge VW same goes for Lexus and Toyota.

The time when Audi invented Quarttro, they are making great cars, but that's it, not anymore.

You sure don't sound informed to me. They are separate cars made in separate manufacturing facilities in totally different countries. They happen to be owned by the same parent company so they use some of the same parts to save money. Does that make them the same cars? No. Is a Cadillac the same as a Chevy? No. Is a Lexus the same as a Toyotai? No. Is the Saab the same as Pontiac? No. There is a reason they charge more money for the Audi, Lexus and Cadillac. They are different cars.

Of course they are not identical cars, no sane person can say that...but...
Because audis in general are a bit more luxuryous than vw. It's all about marketing here. Check out the Skoda Superb and audi a6 (the 2003 model), then check Skoda octavia 2005 and vw passat 2003, A8 vs Phaeton?!?! They use almost the same materials and fabrics, i know because i own a vw passat. Even on the seat belts you find at least 2 or three logos (audi, vw...). Saw diesel filters with Audi/VW/Skoda/Seat logos.They use most of all the same parts. A bit more attention here, a few extras there and an audi logo makes it an "upperclass" vw. A bit more blah blah on the difference between quattro and 4 motion and woff the price goes a bit higher.

 

Most companies are heading towards "world" platforms or platfrom sharing across all their sub-marques anyway so eventually, the line that separates one car from another will get distorted and blended. I mean, you can hardly define a German car anymore cause they can be made in other countries and have parts from all over the world.

So just because Audi shares part with VW, it doesn't make it a VW or a bad car. I think VW is making some awesome VW cars. The new Passat is loaded with features that you can't find in most cars in it's class. (I love the umbrella pocket in the drivers door ). Many other companie use VW parts but they also do other magic of their own to make their car unique. You wouldn't call it a VW Cayenne because it shares the same platform as a Touareg, or would you? Even Ferrari/Maserati is collaborating with VW on another joint platform development. One day we might be looking at a VMW 5 series...

 

When Audi first started off, it is a different car from VW. The quattro was the best invention in its time and that's why they dominated the scene of rallying and now all the cars compete in WRC have 4WD because of this.

Now they may have different design but is basically and I say BASICALLY the same, yes the Audi is more luxury because they are targeting a different market. People will buy an Audi because of the name and image that Audi gives people like they are in the upper class. A VW does not have the same prestige as the Audi, you will hear pharse like "what a 100,000 VW" (Phaeton) while you will never hear it from people buying an A8 but you got to admit the technology is the same. Not saying that your A6 suck because I would have choose the A6 over the Passat if I were to buy one. OK

And yes Lexus = Toyota example:

Lexus IS = Toyota Altezza
Lexus ES = Toyota Windom
Lexus GS = Toyota Aristo
Lexus LS = Toyota Celsior
Lexus RX = Toyota Harrier
Lexus LX = Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
Lexus SC = Toyota Soarer
