Tell me about the snap-in adaptor please!

I am thinking of getting the snap in adaptor for my iphone but I am curious if I am missing something. My understanding is that all it does is charge the phone and doesn't allow me to play music? Is that right?
Seems a bit expensive to be paying so much for just a phone charger.. so just want to ask to see if maybe it does something else I am not aware of?
