I have no BT or SOS button working and the dealer says I need a new TCU!
Is it very easy to remove and install a new one?
Coding? or is it switch & plug and play? any DIY that people know about?

Thanks for any insight...
I've recently went through this route - no TCU, no SOS button, no wiring either. You're going to need the following:

TCU + wiring to the MOST (the cables are short, as the MOST is very near the TCU)
BT antenna + wiring (pretty long cable)
Microphone + wiring (pretty long cable)

The BT antenna and the microphone are located above the front dome light. The wires run all the way back to the TCU, which is in the trunk and running those wires is the only time consuming thing to do, but if it's someone who knows what he's doing, he should be done in 40-60 minutes with everything.

The rest is to have the BT enabled via coding, which as others have suggested can be done by forum member Patrys. Or you could see your local dealer.

Good thread so far. The dealer believes I also need a new TCU...my bluetooth is simply no longer coming up as an option (2006 525xi).

I see a lot of technical detail in this and varying degrees of time/difficulty. Is there a consensus for overall investment in resolving this issue (parts and labor total)?

Thanks very much!

The Dealer wants $1100-$1300 for a new OEM TCU and programing. Good luck
