The only "built in" phone that I've seen before is the Alfa Romeo system. Nav, phone, radio, etc on a colour LCD screen. SMS texting works well. Tells you when one arrives, and lets you send them too.

I expected similar with an E60. Sadly, it's not an option. And I'm using a Nokia 6310i, which seems to be about as "BMW compatible" as you can get.

Is this a problem with Bluetooth profiles (impossible to do). Is it the BMW Bluetooth code. Or the Nokia phone.

Seems very obvious that mating a bluetooth phone with iDrive is an ideal platform for stuff like texting. And even multimedia messaging, dare I ask.

It would seem that 3G and video streaming is too "21st Century" for BMW.

Digital TV, DVD, but no high-tech phone stuff.

The blue tooth was intergrated into the E60 by MOTOROLA so their phone should work the best with the car.

apparently, the bluetooth coding has not been adopted in its full standard by all cell phone makers. motorola sounds like the company who is adopting it most closely to the spec that is standard and supports the BMW systems most fully. the new motorola RAZR V3 apparently works brilliantly with it.
