I have just acquired an 07/04 E61 with Professional Phone (i.e. the one that is built in to the car). I do not have the extended voice package - should I still be able to initiate calls by voice dialling?

I have tried but failed. When I press the speech button on the steering wheel nothing happens - no icon, no audible response, dial commands do not work.

Simple answer NO. However it's a cheap retrofit (cheaper than the original option!)

Thanks for the quick response!

So the standard 'profession' phone isn't really that profssional at all - I can't do hands free dialling on it. How much is the retrofit and where might I get it done (I suppose I could just Google it but if you know where to point me I would be grateful).

You need to tell us your location. However you can start by asking your local dealer. This kit is also listed in the accessories brochure. However I do not know if this will allow control only over a bluetooth phone or over the built in phone too.

I'm in the UK. I'll speak to my local dealer about it - thought I might be able to research the options on the internet but can't find any info.
