In order for voice activation to pick those up, do you record a voice tag (Voice name) on the cell phone first? or does voice recognition actually reads the name in your phonebook?

I have the BMW phone pro (German spec E60) and the numbers in my phone book are recognized automatically... I never recorded the name tags... It just knows what I am saying...

I have the CPT9000 and mine does not recognizes nothing, nada... I have to store the name in the car with the voice activation first (Using command "Save name")

I believe someone post that his CPT9000 did recognize it. What phone do you get with the phone pro? I have a CPT9000 GSM which is basically a V60i with BMW logos

With the bluetooth and v600 I just placed the phone in the car and nothing else once it was paired it transfered the data to the car and the cars voice control took over without me having to do any thing

What happens when you use the voice activation command: phonebook (I'm not sure if its "phonebook" or "list phonebook")
Mine speaks outloud all the names I've saved.

Please tell me how do you use Voice Activating when using the Bluetooth.
On my cell phone. I already setup name dial.? For example "Ted
so I would press the Voice Icon on the wheel drive, the say what? Ted?

Say - "phone" to get to the phone (unless you are already there)
Then "dial name" and he says "say the name" and you say "ted". The guy then says "dial ted?" and you say yes.
You can also "dial number" and say "8675309"

Sometimes you have to give Voice guy a sec to respond but it works pretty well. Better than the v710 has built in (ie better recognition) with very similar commands and confirmation.

This function supersedes your voice dialing on the phone. I don't know that you can access that at all through bluetooth and I-drive but you don't really need to. The BMW doesn't need voice training (again like the v710).

From anywhere in the I-Drive just say "dial name". You do not need to say phone before that.

I just had my software upgrade done today, and had the bluetooth activated. I have the Motorola V505 through AT&T which is a replacement for the V600. It took quite a while for my phonebook to transfer to the car (they are saved on the phone, not the sim). When I do a list phonebook, the response I get is phonebook empty. I can see the phonebook entries in the iDrive and I can manually select the entry to dial it. I can't seem to be able to do any voice dial (except if I tell him the number manually).

Any suggestions?

Doesn't seem like you have NAV. I am not sure how different the voice commands for non NAV cars are. Maybe thats one of the limitations.
Look on the information page of this site and download the list of voice commands. They all seem to work for me.

I have noticed that no voice commands work if the PDC is active. I also noticed something really weird.

I was chatting with my brother through the car. I parked, wanted to leave the car, but continue the coversation. I expected that turning off the car would break the BT link and the phone would then prompt me to use the handset. (this is how it works with the headsets). So I turn off the car, remove the key from the ignition. The phone call is still active through the car. So I got out, shut the door, locked the car and started walking away with the phone. I can still hear my brother still talking to me in the locked car. V. Weird.

Or from anywhere in I-Drive say "Call Paul"
You will be prompted "Do you want to dial Paul?" beep "Yes"
"Dialing"

The first response can take as long as 6 seconds because its searching the phone book for a match.

I experienced the same "weird" thing about turning the car off and keep on talking, but I have the CPT9000. As long as I did not remove the phone from the eject box, I could continue my call even though the key was no longer on the car. I think that is a nice feature, when I first did it, it was an accident and I was pleased to see I did not lost the call.

Had the same thing on the X5 Bluetooth. It is a "feature" believe it or not, so that if you stop the car, and have a conversation going, you don't have to use the gas while you are talking. If you keep walking away from the car, about 30 feet, it will transfer back to phone, as th BT link would be broken at that point.
