Will iphone work properly with the 2004 idrive set up. I would like to know before i purchase the snap in adapter. i find the ability to use my phones hands free to be very tempting. I just know the 2004 idrive is very early software..please advise

thanks

I just had my BT enabled. My build had the BT hardware May/04...it was just not enabled. After all of these years, I'm now using it. Works great with my iPhone(2g). The only issue is that my contact address entries don't show up...just the name and phone numbers. I don't have the snap in adapter.

I have a 525i that was made nov 2003. I have the menu button and voice button and the TCU has a bluetooth symbol. What do I need to make the bluetooth work?

Thanks

There?s a tech bulletin that discusses what model year e60s are equipped with BT but no enabled. i thought it was 03/04-08/04...i'm not sure though. If you have the hardware for this model and it wasn't activated, then your dealer can enable the BT by programming.

Just to be clear, the snap-in adaptor has nothing to do with whether or not your phone will work in your car. The snap-in will charge your phone and with phones that support it, provide an external antenna connection for improved reception. The iPhone doesn't have external antenna connections so all you get with the snap-in is charging. Everything else to do with the phone is handled by the bluetooth connection, even when the phone is docked in the snap-in.

As for whether or not your phone will work, I'm not sure anyone has a definitive answer. If you have a TCU installed, but not activated, then the only way to know if it will work is to get the car coded and try it. I have a UK spec 2003 545i and my iPhone 3GS works fine with that (and no software updates applied since it came out the factory), so there are definitely TCUs out there on older cars that can play nicely with iPhones.
