Just following on from a previous topic of mine. Any UK or European users out there with Blue Tooth who can actually view SMS messages on the i-drive ?

My cars a May 04, week 19 build and doesn't display SMS, nor is SMS covered anywhere in the manual. (Rudy demo'd it was in the US manual). I have a Siemens S55 phone with Bluetooth enabled and paired with car OK.

Appreciate your feedback.

Thought I'd bump this post - just to ask "Does anyone receive SMS or utilise this function at all, and if so is it with Bluetooth or a BMW Car Phone?"

I would use it if it worked. I regulary get texts from people I'm meeting/picking up, or from the SMS service at Manchester airport, where you get an SMS sent to you automatically on approach, landing and baggage pickup after sending an SMS including the flight number, etc.

Dr T, I can't confirm this until next week as I'm in Calcutta in India at the moment (the home of the Ambassador - the "original" driving machine ). I have Bluetooth on my car and use it with a Sony Ericsson T610, all works pretty much fine, but I can't remember seeing SMS on my iDrive options.

I do have one problem that I like to know if anyone else has. When I either make or receive a call, the party at the other end says they can't hear me very well. I seem to have to almost shout for people to hear me normally. Does anyone else have a similar issue. When I get five minutes I'll try a different 'phone, but I thought someone on the board might have some insight.

Cheers,

Malc.

Malc,

I have the same problem. My callers say I sound like I'm calling from a bath !

I think it is microphone related rather than phone type or bluetooth. I had my dealer check whether the voice activation and telephone microphones were the right way round for UK cars (right hand drive). The confirmed the mic was over the driver seat and pointing the right way. More interesting still, they confirmed there is only on mic (RH side) and nothing behind the left hand grille in the ceiling panel. The manual leads you to believe there is one for each. (You might say "Who cares").

My dealer also said there is nothing to improve the pick up on the mic. The only thing I can think of is to get one of the car phone fitters to rig up a unidirectional mic nearer to my face !

Regards

There isn't any option refereing SMS in the idrive.
I use the T610.
The 730d with BMW phone has it.

I have the BMW phone pro (what actually uses BT !!!) and I can read SMS on the idrive screen. I can't write any on idrive screen and I just get a little symbol (closed lette) in the status line of the idrive screen when new messages are received, no chime and no automatic pop up...
None of the people I talked to had any problems understanding me - the most of them didn't even noticed I'm in the car.

Thanks for the update Dr T, I was going to get my dealer to check the Mic, as I had read somewhere that they didn't always get put in the right way round.

It's interesting that the Voice Control uses the same Mic, as that works fine. It even works when you almost wisper. Sounds like a problem of spliting the mic circuit between phone and voice control. I sincerly hope they are looking at a fix for this. I will see what my dealer has to say when I get home.

Interestingly, my voice quality is the same whether the phone is in the cradle or not.

Cheers,

Malc.

I am also May 04 build and use BT but SMS do not appear on iDrive.
I get a lot of them - did not know this was supposed to work.
