Well...

after 4 good months with my CPT9000 solution, after hearing about all the BT successes, I took my March '04 build 545 in for a few squeaks and the BT retrofit. I am yet to experience it in person, but my SA told me that yesterday one of the techs walked right by the car with a BT phone and the car attempted to pair with it. He said that mine was the first BT retrofit to be attempted at their dealership. He's going to charge me for one hour of labor time ($96 at my center) since they had to recode with v13.2( or 3) for an iDrive screen crashing issue.

I have my T616 that I got off eBay and will give it a shot. Do the numbers _have_ to be on the phone, or can they be transferred from the SIM?

I am waiting on a v600 to come in, and I think that I will go with that one, since the screen is nicer, and since I think I prefer clamshell-type phones. But, this should give me a good taste of Bluetooth in the interim.

Now, who wants my GSM CPT9000 phone + cradle?

Does anyone have part numbers and models for the various supported BT phones?

Who is the carrier for the CPT9000 and would I need any other parts for an install? Thanks!

Why do they charge you for warranty work? IDrive crashing and BlueTooth retrofit (that was advertised as standard option) should be concidered warranty work and performed free of charge! Any ideas why they charge their customers other than they are trying to make even more money?

There is a Service Bulletin that says Bluetooth upgrade (Retro fit) is not warranty work. So my guess is they are doing software upgrade under warranty and charging to hook up the fiber cable

The carrier is any GSM carrier in the USA (T-Mobile, AT&T/Cingular). Basically, if your phone has a SIM card, then the CPT9000 that I have will work.

No other parts are required for installation, but there is a SW upgrade operation that's required. (it's about 1.5 hours of labor)

The actual recoding was done under warranty, but the BT retrofit was a small charge.

FWIW, BT was _never_ advertised to me as being a standard feature.

Exactly what my dealership did. Very fair, don't you think?

The car pulls the entire address book from the phone automatically if the phone is completely consistent with the BMW BT implementaiton. Some phones require that the user manually push the address book to the car. See this thread for more on this process: http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e63/5922522-1.html

Here's an excellent thread where we've tried to compile all of the relevant links and info that's going on in different BBs: http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e60/5881570-1.html

I will be in Marco Island, FL until after Thanksgiving, but I'm sure that we can work something out when I get back. PM me with your email or ph# and I'll call you when I get back.

I am totally satisfied with the outcome. I think that one hour of labor time for the BT retrofit was very fair. The system rocks. I copied all the SIM PB entries to the phone and on the next "Pair," the phonebook came right over. It's awesome.
