530d Phone Kit Help
#1
Hi
I've just recently purchased a 2004 530d SE Auto with just over 30k on the clock which I'm totally delighted with. Blimey diesels have came a long way!
Anyway after getting it home and having a good look to see what I'd bought I've come across some things that I hope someone can help me with. Basically when I use the iDrive to access the Communications settings it tells me that no phone is installed. In the centre console there is a container that looks like the place where a phone would be located but I'm wondering how it would connect. To confuse matters there is a tiny Bluetooth unit just above the ashtray area that is made by Parrot and has a green and red button for making/hanging up on calls. I eventually got the thing to ask for phone pairing and guessed the code of 1234 (!) so that is great but this has nothing to do with the iDrive as the car still reports no phone is connected. Is the iDrive looking for a hard wired phone and if so why can't I find any cables in the centre console for this. I already have a Z4 with Bluetooth which was a breeze to pair with my phone but the 530 isn't proving so easy to figure out.
Can anyone help? Surely the previous owner didn't install the Parrot unit without realising that the car might already have Bluetooth?
Cheers
Peter
