Hi Everyone,

I'd like to start by saying this site has alot of great information that one could never hope to ask and get answered form a Dealer.

Ok, here's my problem.

I have a 2005 545i, build date is Feb 2005 Canadian car with Sport-Premium-Active Steering and Pro Nav, as well in the options list that I got from BMW it list's #0639 Telephone & BMW Assist Preperation.

I read alot of posts that describe how to activate Bluetooth through the I drive, but when I go into the Communications section under phone all it says is contact your dealer?? I thought that the 2005 model year the 5 series came equipped standard with BT??

Anyways Here's my question: what exactly does "Telephone & BMW Assist Preperation" mean.

and secondly what do I need to do to activate, BT in my car

as this is a canadian car i'm not 100% sure it has the BT module standard, or just the prewiring, but assuming it does, what you'll need is to take the car to the dealer for coding.

Software enabling is what would be required at your dealership. Perhaps an hour or so of programming to get the software running. I doubt you need any hardware changes.

Since you have #639 all you need is a 3 hours of programming which will cost you $400. Take it to Maranello BMW and ask for Mario (Shop forman) and he will get it done for you. Good Luck.

Hi, I have just purchased the same car as you. 05 545i build date 7/2005. Nav and the works. The dealer, as part of the CPO, updated the software, in addition to the IPod connection I asked for. I have the iPhone 3G, and it works perfectly. I paired via the settings and once I went into the Communications, it took about 30 seconds to pull my address book. Voice dialing and everythings works great.

You may want to ask your dealer to update your system software.
