I recently bought a 2004 530. It has the voice command option so I'm guessing all the necessary stuff for that is in the car. Whats involved in adding bluetooth capability since this years model didn't come standard with it? Is it worth it?

thanks

I had my bluetooth turned on on my 2004 MY and I didn't have voice command option, so I think you should be able to have yours turned on with no problem. The key is the build date of your car. If it was built in 3/04 or later, it should be able to have the bluetooth turned on with just programing. I attached the service bulletin that covers this. If you already have new enough software on your car, they should just have to activate the bluetooth. If not, you can have it done if you have another reason to have your software updated. There are plenty of lists on this board if you do a search for reasons to have your software upgraded. When I had my software upgraded under warranty, they turned on my bluetooth and didn't charge me.

Good luck.

Just make sure your software version is new enough to support it. It gives the version needed in the bulletin. If you don't need to update your software, the dealer will probably charge you to turn on the bluetooth. If you have other issues that require a software update, the dealer may just turn it on, if requested, as part of the software update under warranty.

Good luck.
