Bay Area Performance Chip Upgrade for your E60
My dealer seems to update my CIP every time I bring the car in for service, so my question was--will a CIP upgrade write over your chipping? If so, how long doe it take to re-chip?

From my expirience, the dealer don't reset your ECU everytime you go for service. They reset your oil change and service reminder. They only reset the ECU if they perform a software update or settings for your car.

Hey D, when Stream mentioned CIP upgrade, he is referring to a software upgrade. I've heard different answers from different tuners. Some say CIP upgrades won't override the chip tuning some say it will. I guess the key point is that you're offering to reprogram it for free whereas other tuners would charge a reprogramming fee.

Had mine tweaked by Carlab too. 4.4l engine. Car is definitely more responsive and acceleration is improved. The car seems to be lighter. No problem with dealer even after few visits for service. Good stuff.

I think this is the main concern about wiping out the remapped ECU code.

Do you think you would even notice if the programming were to be wiped out by a future visit to the dealer for a software upgrade?
Did carlab tell you that they would reprogram for free?

The CIP (Coding Individualization & Programming) I'm referring to is a software update--BMW constantly updates the CIP and my dealer has updated my CIP both times I've had my car in for service. So you're saying they will reset the ECU (and therefore write over your chipping) when they update the CIP ?
Assuming that's the case, my second question above was--how long does it take to re-chip?

cobradav andd 545smg- I dont think that i get any ECU or CIP upgrades in the many visits for service. And if they were remapped, you would need to go to Carlab again for reprogramming. I guess it'd take a few days (needs to be sent to speedinnovation) and should be for free. One way that i've found out if it's been remapped, you just need to press on the accelerator in N or P mode and the RPM should be "stuck" at around 5,000. It does not happen on driving mode thou.

Which tuning company do you represent?
Could you post dyno charts substantiating your HP and torque increase claims?
What do you mean by the following--I already use the highest octane gas available, so how does it help:
We achieve this by remapping the standard software in your vehicle Electronic Control Unit (ECU), to suit higher octane fuels.
It won't affect your standard factory warranty
Isn't the chip tuning detectable by the dealer?
What about when they upgrade the CIP--does it write over your chipping?
1. The company is speedinnovation - You can check their website at www.speedinnovation.com
2. I will try to get the dyno sheet from the them tommorow.
3. We modified the air and fuel ratio to suit 91 or 93 octane fuel better.
4. The chip won't be detectable by dealers. In the case the dealer have to reset your ECU, We will re-chipped it again free of charge.
As a reminder, I (and I'm sure others) would like to see dyno charts substantiating your HP and torque increase claims. Looking forward to you posting them.

I just called Darwin and it looked like the guy from SpeedInnovation had rescheduled his visit to CarLab. Darwin's been too busy to check this forum or his emails so I told him he better get back to us potential customers.
We should hear from him soon. Darwin's a good guy. He's done some work on my car and has always been very helpful with advices and what not.
