I would probably recommend an X5 as well in my opinion
Nerwyll, I was considering the X5 as well, however, she specifically said - no more SUV's. She wants a car, but a car large enough to take her and the kids comfortably, reliably, and safely. So that means to get a car that is large enough to take the place of her SUV and not sacrifice any space she will need a 7er. Besides it will be funny as hell to me to see her getting out of a 7, she is 5' tall and maybe 110.

Someone mentioned that the 7 is the kiss of death for dealers but that is really the case with any larger premium car and SUVs right now. When the economy tanks, stock market tanks or the combination, highline cars take a beating first with the exception of exotics because those seem to not get hit as hard.

Highline luxury cars, 7s, S550s, A8, etc are way down on sales new and used. All car sales are down so if no one is buying anything, the more expensive cars are moving even less, hence the reason such great deals can be found on 7s right now.

JTsigma hit it on the head. When I moved to Irvine in 1999, I had a 1999 BMW 528i with Sport Package. I moved here from Atlanta and man I was the sh--- there in Towne Lake Hills as it was one of a very few new BMWs. Very nice cars, but only saw a few BMWs, MBs, etc

I moved to Irvine and it was love/hate. Loved seeing so many great cars, but hated being 1 of 1million BMWs Work harder and keep moving up the car chain. Now in the 750Li and I love this car more than any others from the past. It is huge, but drives so nice and just looks so good. No idea of what will replace this when the time comes

Marquies, stuck in bed? Hoping an old football injury and nothing more serious? You just got married and already have the wife waiting on you while stuck in bed. Good man, gotta get them on the right track from the start
So PK, can you maybe tell me the mileage you're getting out of your 7er? I would like to know. As I said she's getting about 16-18MPG in mixed driving now and she wants it to be more efficient than that and (since the 7 has a bigger tank) get more range from the gas she does use.

Since it would be her daily driver I would be curious to see what 7 owners are getting MPG wise. Anyone?
I am getting mid to high 20's mpg. I took a roadtrip and pushed the ride to 600 miles on one tank.

Man that is perfect, just what she would want. Imagine, right now she gets less than 250 miles on a tank with the Subie, what a difference. How about daily commuting, anyone get above 20 in mixed hwy/city driving?

I do not see how mid to high twenties for mpg would be possible in a 7 Series. My 550 averages 16.8-16.9 and it is hundreds of pounds less than a 7.

Even if I do a pure highway trip and grandma the throttle, mine is good for no more than 22-23 mpg. What does your 7 have -- a hybrid drive?

You have to keep in mind where KU530 lives (Kansas) is nowhere similar to your type of traffic conditions. I'm probably a closer fit to you as I live in the SoCal metro areas. With my 745i, I get 18mpg best in-city case scenario. I get great highway mileage without traffic (24mpg-27mpg). My commute to LA and back yields about ~18mpg over 1 gas tank (mix of hghway and city). In worst case scenario such as commuting down the 405 or in the orange crush, you'll get ~15-16mpg (bumper to bumper).

Still not bad considering the Subie gets MAYBE 17 in mixed driving and with a 16 gal tank lasts about 3-3.5 days (pathetic, I know). So a full tank lasts about what? A week, maybe a little more?

We get about 16 to 18 but its all city stop and go with a bit of a lead foot though for both my wife and I. However when we trip up the highway to LA or down to SD, its in the 22 to 23 range. 24 once when we drove the speed limit.

It has engineering. I have a Chrysler 300C that weights a little less and same hp but gets only 13mpg city/hwy. If weight and hp was the only factors of gas consumption, the world would be a very boring place.

Yup, not bad at all. I actually am pretty thrilled on gas consumption. After the Chrysler 300C, I was fearing worse gas mileage.
