If you get 16 mpg in the Subie, I can't imagine that you'd do much better in the 7. I would definitely go CPO for the 100K warranty.
Yes, the 7 is a giant car but it drives darn well for one.
If rear seat room and comfort are your wife's priorities, the 7 is a fine choice.
I love my 5 Series and would never get such a giant car for my car (I once had an Infiniti Q45 and I'd never get a giant car again) but for big time room in the back, the 7 rocks.

I completely agree Scott, I view the 5er like the Goldilocks story - 3 too small, 7 too big, 5 ah, just right. Since it would be her daily driver I would be curious to see what 7 owners are getting MPG wise. Anyone?

Exactly my thoughts about the 5's size. I could have gotten a M3 for about the same price but the interior was just too small for my needs with a wife, a growing 11 year old and a dog in a one car hoursehold.

Me too - 2 yo, 9 month old, and 9 month old English Mastiff means 3 series a little too tight.

Yeah, two kids and a giant dog would seem to call for a 7 in the family. My dog is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who weighs 23 pounds so he doesn't take up much room. Victor, on the other hand, is growing like crazy.
Wow, 23 lbs? My 9 month old weighs more!! He really does. Yeah, my wife apparently prefers big men (I am 6'4" to her 5') big dogs (she wanted the Mastiff) and big cars ( she really likes the 7er).
Again, if anyone out there can tell me what kind of real world mileage they are getting out of their 7 series - let me know.

The 7 series is a wonderful car, especially the new F01! Perhaps a small change could give you the PERFECT 7 series, and that would be getting the 750i, NOT the 750Li it's about 5 inches smaller, handles a tad better, while being a large enough car for almost ANY situation, (unless you need to transport the Harlem Globetrotters or something!). Top it off with being less expensive, VIOLA! Perfect Car!!

Someone mentioned that the 7 is the kiss of death for dealers but that is really the case with any larger premium car and SUVs right now. When the economy tanks, stock market tanks or the combination, highline cars take a beating first with the exception of exotics because those seem to not get hit as hard.
Highline luxury cars, 7s, S550s, A8, etc are way down on sales new and used. All car sales are down so if no one is buying anything, the more expensive cars are moving even less, hence the reason such great deals can be found on 7s right now.
JTsigma hit it on the head. When I moved to Irvine in 1999, I had a 1999 BMW 528i with Sport Package. I moved here from Atlanta and man I was the sh--- there in Towne Lake Hills as it was one of a very few new BMWs. Very nice cars, but only saw a few BMWs, MBs, etc
I moved to Irvine and it was love/hate. Loved seeing so many great cars, but hated being 1 of 1million BMWs Work harder and keep moving up the car chain. Now in the 750Li and I love this car more than any others from the past. It is huge, but drives so nice and just looks so good. No idea of what will replace this when the time comes
Marquies, stuck in bed? Hoping an old football injury and nothing more serious? You just got married and already have the wife waiting on you while stuck in bed. Good man, gotta get them on the right track from the start
