update: found the wiring diagrams for the steering wheel, which means:
1. I know how to easily mod the coil spring to make it work (butchered the one I had to manufacture a whole new ribbon and found out that's not even necessary so I am ordering a new one)
2. It's a matter of getting the wires and plugs now

Ladies and gentlemen... I am pleased to report that the f'ing thing works Been crusing around for a while now and LOVE it. So i guess you can drop 700 for a new steering wheel or add 2 buttons to your existing one Modding the coil spring is fairly simple if you don't have a heated steering wheel.. If you have a heated steering wheel it becomes a little more tricky but not too bad either.

Alrighty guys, I'm not gonna post the DIY for the mod with heated steering wheel just yet. I need to test it for a while to make sure everything is ok after a week of driving or so.

But.. if someone without heated steering wheel option wants to send me their steering wheel and coil spring, I'll mod it and create a DIY off of that.
Without the heated steering wheel, there's no chance for anything going wrong as you don't have the 12V coming into the steering wheel for the heater.

Some clarifications
Re: The buttons in your steering wheel- Is it a two wire lead per button that goes to the steptronic box?
where specifically did you connect the lead wires to...will appreciate a Wiring diagram. Thanks and cheers!
