Wake Up E39 With Muffler Delete
“Muffler delete.” Sounds a bit boy-racer, doesn’t it? But for the E39 M5, it might be the best way to wake the car (and your neighbors) up.
We’ve always known that the drive-line paired to the E39’s exquisite chassis stands as one of BMW’s best examples of M car, so its a good thing there’s a hidden gem to be found in the heavy exhaust that’s stuffed under the rear bumper.
Despite popular belief, deleting the muffler will not bring death upon your ear drums. After all, you still have the resonator, and the brace of catalytic converters for each bank to hush some of that burnt fuel. It’ll be louder, and very, very worth it. BMW’s V8s have always had that very tight roar to them, and this does a service to all car enthusiasts by letting it be heard from further distances.
After my run of E30s, I know the first thing I’d do with an M5 is add a few more decibels. Thankfully, with the route taken in the video below, they added a very nice touch and kept the tail pipes looking close to stock. And what’s better than a car that can play with the best of them but blend in when need be?
