E34 525ix Touring Is the Ultimate Hauling Machine

For many E34 fanatics, the 525ix represents the ultimate forbidden fruit. This all-wheel-drive 5-Series is among the rarest of variants ever produced, with fewer than 10,000 ever made. And it was never sold in the U.S.

This Bring A Trailer example is even rarer, being what many may consider the ultimate combo: a manual-transmission wagon. It was ordered in the iconic ’90s combo of Oxford Green over Parchment, with cloth seats (which we also didn’t see in the U.S.)

It rides on Style 32 wheels with the correct 525xi-specific offset, which are very reminiscent of Alpina wheels. And the interior looks to be updated with a more-modern steering wheel. The rest of the interior looks to be in great shape, and being a very late production car, this one features dual front airbags.

The exterior is gorgeous too, with none of the typical E34 door rot visible from the photos. The hatch, another typical problem area, looks to be free of rust as well.

If not for the U.S. DOT’s 25-year-rule for imports, this would make an interesting daily driver with tons of available parts support, a reliable drivetrain, and plenty of usable space for daily chores. Sadly, Americans will have to wait another five years to get their hands on this one.
