For the first half of 2013 BMW Group has smashed its worldwide sales record by delivering 954,521 units, handily surpassing last year’s 900,566 amount by six percent.

The good news keeps coming as BMW also reports highest-ever global June sales of 184,489, beating last year’s 172,528 by 6.9 percent.

Driving much of this growth was a BMW 3 Series sales jump of 21.8 percent to 236,215 from last year’s 193,996.

The BMW 5 Series, which leads its competitive segment, climbed the charts 2.1 percent to 169,593. The F10/F11/F07 is the best-selling 5 Series generation ever.

With previous year’s sales at 10,345 for the BMW 6 Series, this year’s 14,012 figure trumps 2012 by 35.4 percent.

First-half BMW Group sales in the United States are up nine percent to 172,787 over last year’s 158,563. Last month’s U.S. sales were up 21.4 percent to 33,645 compared to 27,720 for June 2012. You can blame the newly available 3 Series xDrive as well as other new models for the increase in U.S. BMW sales for 2013. A recovering economy doesn’t hurt either. For comparison’s sake, European BMW Group sales of 436,483 are down 0.1 percent.
