Ultra Rare BMW M1 Crossing the Auction Block

Of all BMW’s motorsport cars, none are more recognizable and worthy of the highest praise than that given to the M1. Both Italian in design and build, it was a dramatic departure from BMW’s former procedure of spicing up their standard production cars. However, the M1 was a victim of circumstance; the international racing classes it originally intended to compete in had folded, and as a consequence, the M1 had a very short production run. It did, however, earn pedigree in the BMW Pro-Car series, which provided support races to Formula 1 events.

This M1 in particular could prove to be one of the most original and lowest mileage M1s to become available when it goes up for auction later this week. Its story starts with sitting un-sold at an eastern U.S. BMW dealership, later to be stored until early 2015. Having sat for a while, it needed to be refreshed, and the current owner did an authentic and true-to-original refreshing, with all new seals and gaskets directly from BMW AG. With a run of 450 cars in total produced, this will very likely end up in an impressive collection with a suitably impressive price tag from RM Auctions.
