Uh, scroll down... there's a DYI post regarding changing the brakes and rotors and painting the calipers in this very forum section. There is no appreciable difference in the brakes between the 535i and 550i. Also, go to BavAuto's website and check their monthly newsletters. The Spring 2008 newsletter has DYI on changing the pad and rotors on BMW brakes that is excellent. Again, BMW brakes are pretty much all the same between the BMW models. Good luck.

ok guys... the rotor diy does not really get into just the pads... I pulled a bunch of pics from the one at Pelican parts

http://www.pelicanpa...-Brake_Pads.htm

and put it together as a pdf -

my application is simply changing the stock pads for other pads. I plan on taking out the pad sensor from the pad and the part that plugs into the frame while I have the other pads on. later to put the sensor back in. anyone want to add anything? please do... I will post the pdf.. just post pics here and comments if you like and I can add them... I just want a dummies guide to pad swap for a 2007 550i...

comments on the PDF:

compressing the piston: I found it easier/safer to use a C-Clamp on the old worn inner pad to push in the piston. Perfect support. I did it with the brake reservoir open and asked someone to watch the fluid while I did it. The fluid didnt move (to my surprise)

Slipping the caliper off the rotor (after removing the guide bolts) was not as easy as it sounded. I used a rubber mallet.

+1, I always use C-clamp and old pad to compress the piston.

How would you search for this tool at Harbor Freight? I looked in their brake section and it was not to be found.
