I have been dealing with this and went to 2 dealers with the STB in hand. They said everything was normal.
Starting the car in the morning after a long drive from NYC the engine light came on emission malfunction and very rough shakes. drove it like that for 10 min and then when i restarted the car the shakes and check engine were gone but not the RPM jumps. i have joined a clip with RPM jumps to see what you guys think. Also i got left high beam malfunction during the drive back. When i cheked it was the left daytime running light that was off.
. the jump is around the 1 min mark.
. Sound bite.

06 530i, I have the same thing and the same story from my dealer. Mine will even heave a bit when backing out cold from the garage.

Anyone know what you can do for this?

I have seen the common maint items that may help. The tranny reset did not for me. I am looking to replace spark plugs and clean MAF, any other ideas?

It seems spark plugs need to be replaced or check the ignition coils or clean the fuel system or flush oil change. Did you pour anything fluid such Foam, cleaner into the oil ?

That squeaking sounds like a bad pulley or belt. As for the poor idle, change the plugs and put some fuel injector cleaner it in if it hasnt been done. There is a TSB about reprogramming the valvetronic lift height to improve idle quality. This only pertains to rough idle on warm engines only though.

I never added anything in the oil or gas. Always dealer serviced.

Is it just me or does that sound like a Diesel?

Maybe the valves are in need of adjustment? Shooting in the dark here...
How many miles on the car?

my car will do some weird idle thing about 1 min after i start it also, it might have to do when the car goes into closed loop, who knows, but i had a rougher idle before also, and seafoam into the intake helped a lot, also the owner i got the car from did not 'drive' the car, by this i mean he never floored it and got the engine hot enough to burn up deposits and things in it.... i was told by plenty of mechanics and people you have to drive a car like to stole it once in a while to 'clear' it out

I see what you mean, my car is a CPO. I am thinking to send the sound bite to the service manager. BMW Canada might get a copy as well. I know they monitor this site so who knows. This car has been always babied and there is no way that a V8 from BMW should sound like that.

I'd go into the dealer and ask them about a valvetronic lift heigh reprogram. It definitely wont hurt. Do you know the code that was stored?
