Wheel size
Hello. I have a 2010 528i AWD LCI E60. I'm looking to upgrade the wheels.. I want to know what the biggest size I can go with without any modification to the fenders, springs etc. I want them to stick out evenly both front and back as close to flush with the fender as I can get.
Please assist. I have no clue about offsets and all that and if awd makes a differnece.. Thanks in advance.

More details? What size are you looking to go....18", 19", 20"....? It depends alot upon that. Also, are you looking for a staggered (wider in back) setup? Or square (same width all around)? Just an FYI, larger wheels like 19" or 20" are going to look a bit odd to most people on an XI if it's not lowered.

Well.. I live in RI will many potholes and crap weather.. so I dont want the tire to be super low profile.. So if 20 is the biggest that will fit than Im probably thinking a 19. but if 22 is the biggest that will fit than im probably thinking a 20. and i also heard you coudljnt stagger with AWD.. is this not true?
so based on the 19 or 20 im curious about the right widths.. I just wanna know what to look for when i go online shopping for these.

Well, you heard it wrong ... who said you couldn't go staggered w/ AWD? X5 been using staggered setup since the get go ... I've been using staggered for almost 5 years ... whoever said that must be clueless.
BTW ... welcome to the forum!

Noooo I would say 20" on a 5 series is about as big as one would want to go. With an Xi, I'd suggest 18", 19" at the most. You have to not only look at width, but also wheel offset, which is how far from the centerline of the wheel it will mount. It's really hard to give you a "for sure" answer without knowing wheel widths and what wheels you're looking at. Here's a calculator that might help. Type in your current stock wheel specs, and then the ones you're looking at. should tell you wheel clearance and more. If you're looking at wheels through online dealers, just give them a call and they can tell you compatible offsets.
The diagram in this link shows a positive offset, whereas -43 is a negative offset, so it'd be on the OTHER side of the centerline.

I want to say stock on an Xi is 7.5 inch width, with -43 offset. Plug that in as current, and then plug in the wheel specs that you're looking at. It will tell you what the difference is. For example, 8.5 inch with -50 offset will result in 6mm less clearance inside, and on the outside the wheel will extend 20mm further out. Whether thats an available offset or not, I have no idea. I just came up with that number because a lot of people put 20mm spacers on to "flush" the wheels.
Although 20mm seems like a lot, 25mm = 1 inch. So it's not quite as large a difference as it originally sounds.
If you've got wheels you're looking at, post them up and it'd help with suggesting an offset.
