I used this forum as a model to help start another BMW based forum. The essential element was to not be a "sponsored" forum. It means alot not have undo pressure placed on owner/administrators/moderators by sponsors. I applaud e60.net founders for remaining free of sponsors. One of the reason I like to contribute is to help the board stay current (hardware/software, etc) and remain one of the single best forums in the BMW community. What others do is up to them, but I do recommend donating as a means to keep this board as good as it is.

Well said cobradav...

I can't speak for everyone else but I have to say that even though you're involved in another forum, I truly appreciate your continued participation and contributions to the E60.net community. No sponsorships and private donations do help in creating a great place to share information in an unbiased way...

I agree, but I do think it's an issue that less than 2% of our members have contributed to the running costs of the forums. As it stands, a small minority are helping to pick up the tab for the majority, and Lomag is still carrying the burden. The reasons cited by Lomag for the decision to allow donations in the first place are if anything even more relevant today than they were then - member numbers are up and bandwidth requirements are up as the forum continues to grow. All of us giving just a little would help.
