Okay, here's a thought...

I realize that we may have arbitrarily come up with a 600 x 100 image size limit (and I realize that some people don't get it about why big signatures can be annoying) but even if we use that standard, there are too many ways for people to make a sig too tall by adding multiple lines of text (or one line of large font text) so maybe we can use an already on-screen "mearsuring gauge" to set the standard on overall signature height and allow everyone to easily determine if their signatures are acceptable or not.

Take a look at the area on the left side of the screen where the member name, avatar, and other information is listed. How about if we set the signature height to be something equal to that height? In other words, if you post a one word (or one line) reply in a topic, the bottom of your signature should not be lower than the bottom of the "Location:" line. That would allow for a 600x100 pic and few lines of text to still fit. If no pic is used, then clearly, more lines of text can be used if needed.

Obviously, the only way to measure things is by using a one word (or one line) post since longer posts will push the signature down below the measuring line...

Does that sound like a good compromise?

By the looks of it, a 600x100 pic combined with my descriptions might be a line or so over. haha

Very good idea Rudy.
I thought about the same but couldn't fiond a way for a clear online visible measure line.

Perfect!

The only problem is that you can add so much text to the left (From: xxx) that you get more lines to play with.

So, the measure is for "regular" (preferedly single-lines) filled out fields in the information box only!

Don't try it guys, we have an eye on it.

Even Frank can't work miracles. No signature for you!

I suggest we make a sticky and have Frank as the designated signature person for the forum. EVERYONE has to go through him.

I'll see what I can do ... but no guarantees. Should I include the twinkle toes?

Not sure we have to worry so much about one line or two over. I think the point is that we can use the measurement standard as a guideline -- sigs should be within that size, give or take a little bit.

As far as width, I realize many don't care so much but I will say that a sig that's too wide will create the need for horizontal scrolling and to me, that's probably more of a pain than vertical scrolling...

The vertical scrolling is really annoying when your internet connection sux.
While you start reading the page jumps, you scroll, it jumps again...
