You do know that posting something like this for all to see is pretty much asking for an accident, right?

BTW is there anything in the rule book about being respectful not only to other members, but also refraining from calling names people you don't know?

Particularly, calling some girl a "skank" for being more successful than you?

I've always thought that such things should be covered under "your mama should've taught you that" section, but I guess - based on some recent crap I've read - some people need to be reminded that having a pair of balls between your legs is not the only criteria that makes a Man. Perhaps this is the wrong place to say this, but any disrespect you show towards anyone - especially a male toward a female (ANY female at all!!!) - just shows that you hate yourself and everyone around you. And - to paraphrase Pac - that's why we call you "hater".

Just a reminder:

Hello everyone!

After the recent events I feel the need to post this little reminder.

When we registered we all agreed to the forums terms of use. They were:

Forum Terms & Rules

Please take a moment to review these rules detailed below. If you agree with them and wish to proceed with the registration, simply click the "Register" button below. To cancel this registration, simply hit the 'back' button on your browser.

Please remember that we are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message.

The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this bulletin board. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law.

You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this bulletin board.

Over the past we did not moderate too much and let the members have fun and sort things out by themselves. We would really like to keep it that way!
Therefore we want everyone posting on the forums to think about what you're going to post BEFORE you hit the button.
Rethink your post and if it is violative of our rules, if it might offend someone else!
If so, don't post it!

The same needs to be done if you set up or change your avatar or signature!

Make sure avatar and signature are not violating the posting rules (they are shown on every POST, so the posting rules do apply!) and that your signature is NOT too big. Size does matter!

When you post, please don't quote pics, unless REALLY needed, and don't quote more text than really necessary. When replying you can delete the parts that you don't NEED to quote!

Before asking questions too fast, the forum has a search function which, if properly used, returns many useful results.

Speaking about the search function, please give your topics a title which tells the story! A title like "Guess what happened to me" doesn't tell anything and the search function will not show the topic on the result list, unless you searched for one of those words!
And searching titles only is the best way to find what you're looking for!

And please post ONLY in the forum your post REALLY belongs to!
It is much easier for searches that way!!!

Classifieds...
NO Bumps at all! A bump is a post that only serves to bring the topic back to the top of the list! Such as PM sent... You are allowed to post news/updates and/or discuss your stuff with others in your thread. But things that are private, which is everything about the purchase itself, can and has to be done in PM's or via email.
Post Pics and MOST IMPORTANT a PRICE!
Vendors that don't want to violate the "illegal" concept of "minimum advertised price" are allowed to post "Price below MAP" instead.
But please post the MAP, so everyone knows what pricerange to expect!

Another thing...
Things that are not well seen on the forums are "self-appointed Sheriffs" and "post-whoring".
If you have a problem with something someone else posted, report it or send a PM to the Admins & Mods. We will look into the situation and try to solve the problem. You might not get an answer, but that doesn't mean we are not doing anything behind the scenes. We discuss a lot of things and we are deciding together! We even have our own forum to discuss everything related to the forum and the members, so that we are all on the same page and know what's going on!

Post-whoring is something you really might want to rethink!
Guys, there is really no need to reply to every post and every topic here.
This will only lead into a situation where other members are turned away, since they really don't want to see the same individual replying to every post... just posting a smiley or something that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.
And in the end, a high post count doesn't mean you're better than others. Quality counts, not quantity!!!
Post-whoring is not YET a violation of our rules, but you really need to think about the other members that hit the "view new posts" function and find hundreds of useless posts, wasting their time.
Rethink before posting is the thing to do!

Finally...
After the recent changes and events that took place on the forum, we will now look a bit closer at what you guys post and will remind you on the above posting rules, if we feel the need to do so. And if something is too violative of our rules, we will delete the thread without further notice.
We don't really want to be the police that steps in and tells everyone what's wrong and right. But if we don't see any other chance to keep this the high quality, friendly community it has become over the last five years, we will play the role of the forums police! Keeping the high standards is our goal! And we will do what is needed to maintain this forum as the one it is known to be.

We will now start our little clean up campaign, but I want to make one thing very clear:
This is NOT because some of you asked for it or, more importantly, threaten to report everything now!!!

We have been discussing this very often allready and didn't wanted to intervene too much. But recently we felt that it is needed to have an eye on things and clean the forum up a bit... BEFORE one specific thread caught our attention.

Please respect the rules and more important than that: Respect other members!

Thank you very much in advance!

Until I read this thread I forgot we could give ourselves a title. Oh well, mine suits as it is.

One other thing; westcoast550' comments have some validity. I too, find myself not spending quite so much time here due to the high level of "post whoring" I think it is called, and the bouts of name calling that break out frequently. And the high number of "quess my topic" titles of threads keeps me out of those as well, even though there may be topics I could contribute to. OTOH, no forum is entirely immune to these issues and of course 5series.net is far superior to "sponsored" or commercially supported boards.

cobradav, I realize you're not here as much as back in the "good old days" but I'm not sure if you noticed that recently, there's been a significant decrease in the "whoring" since we stopped lounge posts from adding to a member's overall post count. (Obviously, pingy still finds the need to welcome each and every new member who posts in the new member forum all at once on sort of a quarterly basis but hey, there's always one in every crowd, right? )

You are correct that no forum is immune to some of the immaturity that we've seen here -- especially as the number of members has grown so significantly -- I think that things have been pretty stable lately and the name calling, personal attacks, etc. have been kept to a minimum.

As far as the "guess my topic" threads...I just ignore them!

Yep.

Another thing that annoys me is that some people just ignore the forums structure and post everything in the main forum.

But overall I think we are doing fine, compared to ther forums.

Iceman, all of you Rudy, Lomag, yourself do a fantastic job keeping this forum the best there is - not just for the 5 series but for BMW in general from what I've seen.
