Hi All:

I am wondering if anyone else's posts are being combined by the mods. I suppose it is not a big deal if "pretty much everyone's" posts are being combined. On the other hand, I don't want to be singled out for the combining operation. In general, I don't like the idea of someone else deciding that he or she knows better how my posts should be timed/presented. I think the combining has done some damage to my intentions when posting--not that it really matters in the scheme of things. To this point, I have resisted the temptation to undo the combining, but, hey, unless others posts are being combined, I don't want mine combined. What is the point of combining? Taking a post point from me? Presenting my posts better than I can? Demonstrating authority? Really, I'd like to know what's the point?

Rarely if ever are posts combined and none recently. That usually happens if a person posts the same topic twice by mistake and receivies replies on both threads so they'd be combined but that's rare. Which posts are you referring to?

Well, someone it combining mine. Let me go find the most recent. This post used to be two separate posts. Quite a while after Rudy posted, I posted a separate reply challenging anyone interested to "name" the second picture. I would never have posted like this post--skipping down a bunch of lines to add my new comment and photo. And, my intention was to give everyone a shot at the new pic--not to reply to Rudy specifically. That's why I used the option of a new reply.

My appologies if I am mistaken. It is possible that I hit edit and then posted the new challenge and photo, but I don't think so. And, I am confident that other of my recent posts have been combined. I hope it's not the percocet at work.

Your assurance that my posts won't be combined in the future is good enough for me unless the circumstances you mention are present. If other combinings occur, then I will document them carefully.

I'm confused -- I was talking about combining threads all together. It seems like I misunderstood posts to mean threads but you're acctually talking about individual posts inside a thread. If that's the case there's no way for those to be combined by anyone. There was a feature in the board that if you reply to a thread more than once in a short peroid that it would automatically combine them but I've disabled that many months ago. Even so though, you should not be replying to a thread more than once. You can quote and reply to multiple people in one single reply.

OK. Good enough for me on the combining issue. I will accept that I am mistaken.

However, you say:

"You should not be replying to a thread more than once. You can quote and reply to multiple people in one single reply"

This comment makes no sense to me. Please clarify. In this regard, "almost all of us" reply in threads more than once. The sequence in posting is important. If someone makes a comment in post 1, and I reply in post 2, then what sense would it make for me to reply to some other point made by someone else in post 30 by quoting back in post 2? Sorry if I misinterpreted what you said. Maybe I just don't understand what you said.

What Mark means is, when you go through a topic and you want to reply to several posts, you can select them all and then hit the add reply button. All selected messages will be quoted in your post. You can add comments/answers just as in a regular "reply" post, but there are several of them combined in only one post.

I'll post one now, see the next post!

I selected the three posts by clicking on the quote button, it then appears red.
Then I clicked on add reply, and this s the result:

And if you are familiar with the code, you can also then do this manually after you have selected posts and clicked on add reply:

I am still able to answer to the selected ones piece by piece...

I know how to do it; but it seldomly seems appropriate since the flow of posts is important in interpreting what's going on. What you did is fine provided it applies only to posts made before one's reply occurs.

Yep.
But very often ppl don't do this...

See this. A feature not used, replys eating up space, others need to scroll down and look at the same sig again and again...
