Any chance the Edit button on a post can be left open forever?

Since good things come in 3's...
Or at least for a very long time, like on most other boards? It's nice to be able to go back and edit / add something later. It only seems to stay open for a very short period after you post.

Interesting policy. I read some of the reasons posted in the links above (and that it is standard across forums, though almost all the ones I can think of (maybe 10 I'm on) actually let you edit. I can see how you want to preserve an original post on the one hand. Often it's more info that I might want to add to a post, not delete stuff necessarily. A lot of times when I find it useful is in a review thread, and you post updates later, but they get buried in the posts below your original if there were lots of replies, and this way, you can put all the info and updates in your first post also, so whoever clicks the thread, sees everything in one shot.

Nope. Because people use the view new content function or the orange box in front of the title and get to the first unread post in the thread, so, they will miss updates if edited...

I'm also used to seeing open time limits on Editing. I visit E90Post, Bimmerfest, Swedespeed, VolvoXC, Quattroworld and Audiworld, all of which allow editing forever pretty much.
