Abandonment of "Civility"
Is it my imagination or has anyone else noticed that as of late there has been an element of "roadfly rakishness" (for lack of a better description) creeping up on the forums. I was just perusing through a few of the discussion threads and noticed that the tolerance level being exhibited by some members of the opinion of others is negligible at best. Gentlemen and Ladies I implore all of us not to become another bad forum like those other boards. Sometimes I sense that some members for whom English is not a first language get taken out of context and pounced upon, I suggest we employ a bit of patience with them. This also goes the other way. For members for whom english is not their primary language, please consider how you choose to respond to a post because while you may not intend to convey something in a malicious manner, it may and does sometimes comes across as such.
I really do enjoy this board and realise that a swell in membership also bring differing personalities, but we all have in common an amazing car, that much we can agree on, right? OK, I am going to meekly step off my soap box.
Just remember we should hold ourselves to higher code of conduct, otherwise, carry on.

I have not had much time to read the forums lately, & most unfortunately too. So I have not seen the posts you are referring to.
Nonetheless I agree with your sentiments.
One would hope that most E60 owners & fans are mature (I am not referring to age) people.
We should be tolerant of different views, opinions & cultures.

Good reminder for us all
Sometimes I may be a little flip in a response "assuming" of course that someone who posted did due dilgence and should have been clear. I also feel that it is my responsibility to point out (but maybe not so gentle
) that they should provide more details when asking for help... I'll try to be more patient.

I'm a new member here, but I think its a fantastic and friendly forum.
You make good points, but at the same time, you can not restrict freedom of speech, and other's opinions may be different from yours. Plus, not every owner is fascinated with the car - the ones having problems don't post in the best of moods.
The forum should be moderated to remain civil. And this requires a lot of work and dedicated group of moderators. I don't know if we have such a team here.

For the last month i changed in a way. Several topics cahanged me and my view on some people. Good and bad.
I agree that everyone should be more mature and tolerant to each other so this wonderfull forum can carry on. I for one love it.

To be honest, the number of threads where this happens, compared to the total number of threads and posts we see on the board, is pretty limited. You make some good and valid points, but it is good to see some passionate and "lively debate
" from time to time, and I don't want that to stop. I've not seen very much on here that I would consider to be unacceptable, and it's definitely light years away from what you can find on other forums. Overall I think we do a pretty good job at self moderating and when we don't Lomag and Das step in. Personally, I much prefer the threads where posters genuinely post what they think, whether or not I agree with it, and some of the posts lately have been particularly entertaining
This is far and away the best E60 board and has far and away the best posters.

I agree totaly and try to follow the best by myself.
Also lately I'm a little upset that the board is getting a little "junky". Too many threads about really nothing. Most of them should be in the Lounge section but they are not. If you post a serious car technical related topic or question you hardly get 10 replies. But below you find a post about who raced what and you get 20 pages of replies. No problem with that but I really thing that is more of a chat think which should go to the Lounge section.
Then there are the MP3, CIP, Ipod, squeaky door sils or tranny slam... all over again and again...
The knowledge and real automotive enthusiasm is starting to be missing lately......
I love this board and come here every day for the past year. Also I don't want to sound like some kind of censorship or something. This is just my feelings I get about the board lately. But I agree it is still the best E60 board ever.
oh boy, now I asked for troubles. I'm gonna get it badly
