Finally MacFly - you now have a set of mirrors. Are you going to be doing the mini-operation on your own or having someone do this for you? Good luck and lemme know if u have any questions..

Hey Eugene and John,

Don't want to burst your bubble but, the wiring for the pre 09/05 is different from post 09/05 to LCI.

you guys might and most likely will run into problems with the wiring connection.

As for fold option, if the previous owner got them from Quad_M, then it shouldn't have autofold. I had mirrors from Quad_M before too, before I sold it and I got Euro fold mirrors (folding mirror project). It never went through cause I'm still trying to figure out how to get them to fold on my car. There's a few posts, possible under my name that explains it more, but it could be different, since yours is post 09/05 and the wiring is different.

Ask Eurorev or any BMW dealership about the wiring, they will confirm.

Good luck you two.

The folding portion of the mirror is located in the base, I think that portion that pivot around is different between M5 & std. mirror as they both fold different way.

As for the wiring you can probably re-use the ECU (the only guts that probably interchangeable) from the std.

GL!

don't agree to this - i managed to convert non-lci mirrors into lci mirrors. It requires an hr extra work but it works!!

yes, i've seen the actual "elbow" is different for both mirrors....but i think, hope, that just cosmetic and that my auto fold motor will allow it to work.

ok guys, you're killin' me!!! rsyed, how confident are you that i will be able to do the retro fit w/o any issues. any thought on the auto fold concerns?

Eugene - do you think it's possible to take pix of the wires and guts of the M5 mirrors?

why do you think this rsyed's DYI won't work? since i'll, or Tony/Sean, will be takin' the guts out of my current mirrors to put into the M5 mirrors.

I dont want to take the mirrors apart. the wiring guts should not be any differet that the ones from the DIY pics as they are the same mirror.s

i am very confident it will work - why should it not work??? i am waiting for nigxdoof for his reasoning..

You can easily find out whether the mirrors have autofolding - open up the mirror, look at the ecu and count the number of wires coming out of the ECU..

Check this out. If the mirrors have all the features then you ECU is fully loaded with 11 cables, liek here:

M5 Mirrors Pre 09/05-dsc_2324.jpg

If you compare it with an ECU of a mirror with only heated glass:

M5 Mirrors Pre 09/05-dsc_2310.jpg

Do you see a difference in the wires??

For my ECU, the wires were as such:
RED/GREEN/BROWN: the mirror connector
VIOLET/BLACK: For the EC mirror
RED BROWN: heated mirrors
BROWN/GRAY: paddle lights
YELLOW/WHITE: autofold

Dont get urself get nervous by comments made by people here
