I have just traded my e60 530d and Sytners have given me back the Hartge Motronic unit I had fitted by Birds in June. The unit is for the 218bhp engine - bhp increased to 255 @ 4000rpm, torque 405lb @ 2000rpm .

This unit has the remainder of three years Hartge warranty on it and will fit directly onto the e60 218bhp engine in minutes. If your friendly BMW dealership is not happy to do it, then Birds will (for a labour charge)

This performance kit was ?1153 in June, but I am willing to negotiate with a serious buyer at around the ?500 mark.

The kit makes a significant difference to performance - it rev's soooo freely (almost petrol'esque), no nasty black smoke at all, and I never noticed a penalty on consumption.

It works by keeping the injectors open longer at plus 50% throttle, not by increasing the fuel pressure, so no premature component wear etc. Motorway performance is outstanding

Hi FLowerfred, not true - mine was a euro4 and it worked fine (ie had the particle filter and the new regime twin chrome exhaust. I was unsure so I gave the chassis number to Birds/Hartge and they confirmed the upgrade was compliant with my car.

Would be interesting to know how this unit compares to a tuning box item at ?300 new.

Interested at ?300, but can't see ?1100 being sensible.
