Did anyone else catch it?

If you didn't, they had Tiff Needell round a test track in a 520i with all 4 run flats punctured. He managed over 100mph on the straight and was only 15s slower than his control lap on non-punctured tyres.

Was very impressive.

yeah it was nice and after seeing the cop car have a blow out at 120mph I think I could live with a little extra road noise not that I've noticed anything.

Yes I saw it too. Very impressive indeed. Also they were loud too when running flat. That backs up my experience of running on one flat tyre.
I guess the programme also answered one of my other questions i.e. the Michelin run flats (PABX) are not compatible with the E60 wheels, since the E60 uses the Dunlop, Goodyear type. However the Rolls Royce use the Michelins.

I saw it - very reassuring.
( E60 looks great in black doesn't it ! The top gear car looked noticably higher than mine though,I hadn't realised the sports suspension (15mm lower) would make such a difference to the looks)

On my way home from work (3 miles one way) I picked up a drywall screw in my left rear run flat tire that only had 2k miles on it.

Cost to replace the tire and mounting was about $400.

I switched to non-runflats on a mini cooper s for just that reason

pirelli runflats lasted 10K miles and (discounted) were ?800 to replace 4 so I switched to toyo proxes, ?250 for four and ?10 for a can of tyreweld and ?15 for a compressor........improved the handling quite a bit also.

A punctured runflat can be repaired as long as you don't drive on it!!! so moral of the story is always keep a compressor in the boot, if the tpi shows a drop in pressure, keep it inflated with the compressor and get to a tyre repair shop pronto!

(It was my BMW dealer that repaired a couple of punctures in the pirelli tyres)
