New V8 from Mercedes.
#1
From this article in Autoweek, Mercedes has apparently developed a 500+ hp V8 naturally aspirated engine.
A blurb from the article:
M-B claims the 6.2-liter V8 develops ?a minimum? of 510 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque without a supercharger, and has 20 percent more torque than other free-breathing engines in class. Cars fitted with the engine will get a 6.3-liter badge.
While we are all excited (and rightfully so) about the new V8 550, I think Mercedes has just upped the ante a bit.

My Ride: E60 "Stripper"
Now C6 "Stripper"
I think that New MB V8 will only be for AMG vehicles.
I'm curious as to what MB's answer to the BMW's 4.8 V8 in the 750i and 550i will be.

My Ride: 535 D - to be delivered end Feb 2005 - color E08 - comfort seats - executive leather balck - 122 wheels - dynamic drive - active steering - pack luxe - tecnology pack - moon roof - 6CD player - hifi system - spare wheel - BT phone
I traded in the beginning of the year an E500 V8 for my new 535D.
In 2 years this car stayed for about 2 months in the workshop.
So Mercedes even with a jet engine: NEVER AGAIN

MB has never really been technically advanced in the engine department. That's my impression anyway. They've only been leading the hp war due to supercharging. Meanwhile BMW has always stood out engine wise. In any case, that new MB V8 sounds hot. I doubt you'll see it in anything less than their top end cars.

This is an AMG engine. They're abandoning superchargers. More info here:

I thought I read somewhere that the new "S" class merc was to have a naturally aspirated V-8 producing 380 hp. Has anyone else heard this? This would be the regular merc powerplant-not AMG-of course it may be of larger displacement, 5.2 or something, I am not sure.
