No, but seriously - haven't you asked yourself how much money BMW actually makes from each car they sell?
In 2006 the profit slipped to 2 142 Euros per car, compared to M-B's 1 929 Euros and Audi's 1774 Euros.
But three years ago, BMW were making 2 548 Euros, M-B 2 569 Euros and Audi just 1 047 Euros. So Audi is catching up in all sectors, as it seems.
Why less? Discounts and increased spending on more expensive stuff. Like Run Flat Tyres. No just kidding!
